Mind your Ps and Qs

One of the things that bothers me the most, is the behaviour of some people in general. Especially in the company of others. That is why I think that minding your Ps and Qs is the key to succes. Courtesy is one of the few things you are judged on at the first impression. Let me give you some examples.

If you are a guest in a friend's house, you should act properly. Assuming that it is your first time at his or her house, you should introduce yourself to his or her parents, siblings and the rest of the family by shaking their hand. On the other hand, if you have once been there already, you should atleast say hello. You do this because of politeness and showing respect to your host. Treat others like you want to be treated.

Another great example is to open the door for someone else. It is something what many people do not do while it only takes a small amount of effort. Another of such an example is to respect your elders and betters by giving up your seat and let them take place in pubic transport.

Besides these tips, it is also very important to dress accordingly and mind on what you do and how you act in certain situations. If you are at school, you can choose to dress more casually but if you decide to go out for dinner. You should choose to wear something more formal and appropriate, not a cap or a beanie.

The intention of this blogpost is not meant to persuade my readers to follow all the etiquettes I named. But to bring the message of making atleast an effort on how to behave in public. I believe that if you from now on start and think on how to behave, act and dress. Many people will start to appreciate you even more and will look up at you!

  1. Hi Meiko,

In a student's association these P's and Q's are established. I wrote about this in my post: "the Mores". Might be interesting for you as it greatly connects with your post.
