Knowledge is Power

One of the things that I have questioned myself lately was: 'What is the meaning behind making your homework, studying and learning?'

Recently when I was in class, a friend of mine asked the teacher: 'You tell us that this is important for the exam and what we have to be able to do for the final exams of our middle school career. But are we actually just studying to pass our final exams or are we supposed to learn something, enlarge our knowledge and develop our mind?' This got me thinking, if the purpose of everything what we are doing at school is just to let us pass our exams, then there is something wrong about our education system.

A majority of students complain about the things you do in class. Take for example a mathematics lesson, when the teacher was explaining the Pythagorean Theorem or the quadratic equation you probably thought: 'Why are we even learning this? I will never use this in a lifetime!' I have to admit, that is also how I thought but I have learned that you should be grateful and appreciate that you receive education in the first place. You should enjoy your time making homework, studying for exams and get the best time out of the wise lectures which teachers pass on to you. There are children who live on the same planet as you do, who are suffering from poverty and will never get a chance to have scholarship and become an academic individual.

Another point that I would like to add is that you should make your homework for yourself and not for the teacher. The purpose of attending class is to learn something, not to satisfy the supervisor. The time that they had to spend their years behind counters are over. You are here for yourself and only for yourself. If you fail your exams due to the lack of perseverance, there is nobody to blame except yourself. Just keep in mind that you do this for your own good.

Our education system is not perfect yet, but we can at least try to squeeze the best out of it!
